"SEARCH Hawaii, Where Food Meets Culture" is a 30-minute television program airing in Hawaii on KHON2 on Saturday evenings at 9 pm, then again on Tuesday evenings on CW93 at 9:30 pm. SEARCH Hawaii will follow a cultural expert and a professional chef on their journey to acquire ingredients found in nature and create a meal based on the Hawaiian Moon Calendar and Hawaii’s unique culture.
Mike Lofaro, the waterman chef, and Kainoa Horcajo, a Hawaiian cultural practitioner with a love for the mountains, plan and produce a monthly culinary adventure series focusing on the Hawaiian Moon Calendar. KHON2 news anchor Kathy Muneno will host opening and closing segments inviting the viewer to join Chef Mike and Kainoa as they find inspiration for their monthly culinary adventure series menu.
More than a “farm to table” cooking show, there is broader depth and breadth with the diverse but similarly passionate backgrounds of the two hosts. SEARCH Hawaii will inspire the viewer to consider local ingredients while they learn about Hawaii’s cultures and traditions with visually inspiring images, meetings with local heroes who are farming, fishing and cooking cultural ingredients throughout the Hawaiian islands.
Viewers benefit by learning about the Hawaiian culture, local food sources and the best time to plant and harvest using the Hawaiian moon calendar.
Each show closes with Chef Mike Lofaro creating the inspired dish in a humble kitchen or outdoors.
